Exports rise 10% to $5.1 billion in March

 


Merchandise exports grew almost 10 percent year-on-year to $5.1 billion in March because of higher shipment of apparel products, according to data from the Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) released today.

In the July-March period, the first nine months of the current fiscal year, exports fetched $43.55 billion, registering 4.39 percent year-on-year growth.

  আজ বুধবার বৃষ্টিবিঘ্নিত সকালে নোয়াখালী সুবর্ণচর উপজেলা পরিষদ নির্বাচনের ভোট গ্রহণ শুরু হয়েছে। তবে বৈরী আবহাওয়ার কারণে ভোটকেন্দ্রে ভোটারের উপস্থিতি হাতে গোনা। সকাল ১০টা পর্যন্ত কোথাও কোনো অপ্রীতিকর ঘটনার খবর পাওয়া যায়নি। সকাল সোয়া নয়টায় চর জব্বর ইউনিয়নের পশ্চিম চর জব্বর নেয়াজিয়া সরকারি প্রাথমিক বিদ্যালয় গিয়ে দেখা যায়, কেন্দ্রটিতে ভোট পড়েছে ২০টি। কেন্দ্রের প্রিসাইডিং কর্মকর্তা শামসুল ইসলাম প্রথম আলোকে বলেন, কেন্দ্রটিতে ভোটার ৪ হাজার ৬৪৩ জন। বুথের সংখ্যা ১০টি। সকালে বৃষ্টি হওয়ায় ভোটারের উপস্থিতি একেবারেই কম। তবে বেলা বাড়ার সঙ্গে সঙ্গে ভোটার উপস্থিতি বাড়বে বলে আশা প্রকাশ করেন তিনি। অবশ্য প্রিসাইডিং কর্মকর্তার এই বক্তব্যের সত্যতা মেলে সকাল ১০টায়। ১০টা পর্যন্ত কেন্দ্রটিতে মোট ভোট পড়ে ২৩৩টি। আড়াই মাস বয়সী দুধের শিশুকে কোলে নিয়ে ভোট দিতে এসেছেন গৃহবধূ রুমে আক্তার। সকাল সাড়ে নটায় এই কেন্দ্রে আড়াই মাস বয়সী দুধের শিশুকে কোলে নিয়ে ভোট দিতে এসেছেন চর জব্বর গ্রামের বাসিন্দা রুমি আক্তার। কোলের বাচ্চাটিকে নিরাপত্তার দায়িত্বে থাকা নারী আনসার সদস্যের কাছে রেখে ভোট দিতে...
